1. As a student, Microsoft word has been a huge part of my education. I have used Word for as long as I can remember for things from science projects in middle school to long research papers in college. In high school I took a computer class that focused on all the Microsoft programs and I was able to learn Word the easiest. I have seen my teachers use it for things like assignments, handouts or tests. Word is a program used by almost everyone in a school system, whether it be for writing a paper or creating a test.
2. As a student, I have always known about copyright and correctly citing my own work to not get any sort of plagiarism flag on my papers or assignments. It is so easy to copy and paste things from a website onto an assignment but it is important to make students aware that this is wrong. It is equivalent to copying your neighbors math test. As a teacher I would follow the concepts set forth by the CSMI's best practices. When developing my own materials I will make sure to give proper citation to copyrighted materials that I use in my classroom. I will collaborate with peers because there are so many good sources out there but I will make sure to add the correct attributions. When I am having my students create their own work I will allow them to utilize copyrighted sources, however they will still have to create their own work. The internet is a huge resource today, so taking that away from students is not fair but they do have to understand that the internet is not doing the work for them. They have to put the effort in and work hard.
3. One of the implementation issues from Chapter 9 is cyber bullying. This is an issue that many people face every day that becomes more prominent due to more technology that is seen in classrooms. One solution to cyber bullying is to set standard about bullying on the first day to school. To inform your students that bullying will not be tolerated whatsoever and there will be several consequences if it is found. Another implementation issue is freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is a right by our Constitution but becomes a grey area in our school system. Students are not allowed to say whatever they want and get away with it even though they have freedom of speech. One solution to this would be to explain guidelines to respectable speech during school to explain to students what type of language is tolerated and respected. Academic dishonesty is another big implementation problem. This is when students copy and paste someone else's work to submit it at his or her own. This is something that is very tempting as a student. It is easy and convenient but also illegal. A solution to prevent this would be to have students check their work before submitting it because sometimes students plagiarize without knowing it. They can simply put their work into google and if it comes up as someone else's work it has been plagiarized. When students do research it is important to explain to students how to correctly use someone else's words without plagiarizing it. This can be explained in the classroom as a lesson.
